OM is considered the primordial sound of the Universe in Hinduism, Buddhism and other ancient Eastern spiritual traditions. It starts all longer mantras, and is said to have always been here, was not created. OM is considered a Universal sound, the ever-present sound. OM is made up of AH + OO + M. Sometimes written and pronounced as AUM (ah-ohm). It comes from an ancient text called the Mandukya Upanishad (one of the Vedic texts). This mantra is said to take us beyond suffering, release tension and bring peace. It represents that which lies beyond past, present and future.
