Bija mantras come from Sanskrit, and are also known as “seed syllables.” They don’t have meaning or any specific translation. Their purpose is to emit the power and energy of their sound. A bija can be a syllable within a longer mantra structure, or can be chanted on their own. There are bijas associated with each chakra in the body. Bija mantras, when sounded, stimulate or “light up” the chakra centers they’re associated with.
