What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive healing practice that uses light touch to encourage the healthy flow of energy throughout one’s being, the body, mind and emotions. Reiki is Japanese in origin, and was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui. The word “Reiki” means universal life force energy. It can be broken down into two parts: “rei” which means the higher intelligence that creates and guides the universe, and can also mean “God”; and “ki”, which is the non-physical energy that animates all living things.
Each of us is a complex and interrelated energy system. Disruptions and blockages in the flow of energy in our system can result in disease, chronic conditions, pain and other symptoms at the physical and emotional level.
Reiki practitioners are trained to channel “reiki,” or universal life force energy, through their hands to the client, resulting in a re-balancing of the body’s energy system, relaxation of stress and tension and increased ability for the client’s body-mind to heal itself.
